Vietnam sets the pace

05 Mar 2014  2035 | World Travel News

Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates the country welcomed 842,026 international travellers in February representing an increase of 47.60% over the same month last year.
It will probably enjoy the largest single monthly increase of all its ASEAN neighbours and contrasts dramatically with Thailand’s shrinking growth rates caused by political chaos and related security concerns.
Thai outbound trips to Vietnam dropped out of the top 10 listed source markets. It ranked in 12th place with 19,093 visits representing an increase of 23.28% over February 2013.
China led the field with 238,265 visits improving 82.54% followed by South Korea, Japan, the United States and Taiwan. The remarkable increase in Chinese arrivals was evident despite the tightening of China’s consumer laws related to outbound tourism.
All of the country’s top markets are in the Asia/Pacific region with the exception of the US (4th).
The bulk of arrivals in February (647,233) passed through the two main aviation gateways Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
VNAT updated its data on its website, Monday, sourced from the government statistic office.
