Khiri Travel moves to sustainable new office in Vientiane

Khiri Travel Laos has moved into a new office in Vientiane. The new suburban office, near the Thai embassy, has been created to reflect Khiri's work priorities. It is operating on sustainable principles that follow Khiri Travel's earlier STEP accreditation.

"The office move is about moving our mindset too," says Ruben Derksen, Business Manager of Khiri Travel Laos.

The new office is defined by more natural light, more space, and more green plants inside and outside the office. The two-story villa house has a well-manicured garden for creativity stimulation. Inside, the office has a large kitchen and communal area for relaxation, and maps on the wall for inspiration. A cheerful dog called Beastie has been adopted as the Khiri office pet. A total of 10 staff now work at the new office.

"Our new office is brighter and more inspirational and makes it easier for staff to embrace sustainable office practices," says Derksen.

As part and parcel of the new move, garbage is now separated at source; LED lights are used; paper comes from farmed trees; rechargeable batteries are used; computers are switched off at the end of the day; and natural light from a window wall shaded by plants allows for minimal use of electric lights.

Informal meetings are now often held in the garden among the banana, coconut and mango trees. Many small birds and colorful plants such as frangipani and bougainvillea are a feature of the garden.

"We're all very happy to be in such an open and inspirational office environment. It really does make a big difference, and we're looking forward to welcoming you all over," said Derksen.
