TAT opens up Latin American market

The Tourism Authority of Thailand will target emerging Latin America markets through participation in major travel trade shows and organising road shows and special events.
Commenting on efforts to drive tourism from Latin America, TAT governor, Thawatchai Arunyik said: “Latin America has potential to become a big source of high-quality tourists. To get the message out to them, we need to showcase services and attractions using all marketing channels.”
One of the key trade show identified by TAT is the World Travel Market Latin America.
A TAT delegation led by Thawatchai attended the WTM Latin America 23 to 25 April, at the Transamerica Expocentre in Sao Paolo, Brazil. This event, now in its second year, attracted more than 1,400 sellers and over 16,000 trade visitors. This represented an increase of 3% over 2013.
As well as hosting an Amazing Thailand booth at the three-day trade show, TAT also held a breakfast meeting with major tour operators in Brazil at the Pullman Sao Paulo Ibirapuera 23 April.
Discussions were held with Marco Ferraz, president of the Brazil Tour Operators Association (Braztoa) to share updates on the tourist market situation in Brazil as well as broker the possibility of Braztoa arranging for its annual general meeting to be held in Thailand.
Brazil is one of the so-called BRIC nations, (Brazil, Russia, India and China) that are viewed as emerging markets where higher levels of disposable income that will spur outbound tourism.
Marketing efforts followed in Chile and Colombia, where the TAT delegation led an Amazing Thailand product presentation in Santiago, Chile, followed by a second presentation in Bogotá, Colombia.
