BALI : Skal International’s Asia Area Congress was officially opened Saturday in front of delegates from 18 countries, representing a membership from Mauritius to Guam.
A leading personality in Skal International and veteran travel and hotel executive in Thailand, Andrew Wood attended.
He reported in an email despatch that world president for Skal International, Karine Coulanges attended the event saying there had been a “very positive exchange of ideas on how we can take our great organisation into the future.”
She recognised Asia Pacific as a region that would be a “driving force and a corner stone of Skal,” he added.
Skal International is the world largest networking club for travel industry executives. However, western expatriates dominate attendance in Asia and among the challenges discussed in Bali was how to attract more young people and citizens of Asian countries to enrol.
Initially, it saw its role solely as a networking club for high ranking executives across the entire spectrum of travel. Today, it has been more active in supporting countries that suffered setbacks in tourism and has spoken out on issues and adopted a stronger advocacy role.
It’s annual congress is one of the largest B2B travel events worldwide.
The three-day Asian congress is taking place at Nusa Dua Beach Resort & Spa, hosted by the 190 members the Bali club one of largest and most active in the region.
Skal’s Asian Area comprises over 2,000 members with more than 17,000 members globally in 85 countries. The association is celebrating its 80th Anniversary, this year.
