Ten Thai destinations curfew-free

BANGKOK : The night-time curfew has been lifted in Hat Yai, Chang Island and Pha Ngan island raising the number of curfew-free destinations to 10, according to the latest announcement made the National Council for Peace and Order Sunday.
Late evening, 6 June, the NCPO had added Hua Hin, Cha-am, Krabi and Phang-nga to a list of three curfew-free destinations.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand said the move demonstrated the commitment by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to promote Thailand’s tourism.
At a press conference on the opening day of the TTM, 5 June, TAT governor, Thawatchai Arunyik, told international media he had recommended to NCPO that the curfew should lifted at all major beach resorts.
He was commenting on the NCPO announcement, 3 June, that ended the curfew at three major resorts; Phuket, Samui and Pattaya.
Ten destinations, provinces, are now exempt from the curfew: Phuket; Samui; Pattaya; Krabi; Phang-nga; Hua Hin; Cha am; Hat Yai; Chang Island; and Pha Ngan Island.
The curfew was lifted throughout Krabi and Phang-nga provinces,. This includes Lanta Island in Krabi and Khao Lak in Phang-nga.
Other destinations remain under curfew from midnight to 0400, but despite midnight closing, pubs and restaurants are winning back business in Bangkok and the BTS and underground, although closing at 2300, are packed with visitors and locals commuting between shopping malls and entertainment spots.
The NCPO indicated that the curfew in Bangkok and North Thailand could be in place for up to three months to ensure safety and security. It also advised that the country would be under military rule for around 15 months when national elections will be held.
