Oriental Hospitality Consultants is expanding in Laos to assist hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and related tourism and hospitality businesses to attract higher spending visitors.
OHC general manager John Morris Williams, who also serves as the Luang Prabang View Hotel’s general manager, stated that the firm’s main objectives include recruitment, evaluating hospitality establishments, and providing news and information to Laos’ tourism industry.
“Our on-line service caters to all areas of the hospitality industry, from hotels, resorts, and restaurants to pubs, clubs, and smaller establishments such as guesthouses,” Mr Williams noted.
The OHC website, www.orientalhospitality.com, provides a portal for its services: an employment hub for job seekers, a vacancy registration system for employers, and a news gathering service for all involved in Laos’ hospitality industry.
“We are a dedicated team of professionals with almost 100 years of combined experience from all hospitality industry sectors – old hands in a developing destination, and we want to assist in Laos’ development in an industry that’s rapidly changing,” Mr Williams said.
Lanith (Lao National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality) Chief Technical Advisor Peter Semone applauded the OHC initiative in Laos.
“OHC is starting to offer a great service at the right time for Laos’ tourism and hospitality sector,” Mr Semone said. “Lanith has more than 50 students enrolled in the two-year diploma certificate program, and OHC provides the perfect platform for them to find employment upon graduation.”
Mr Williams emphasised: “OHC’s hospitality recruitment section is set up for those seeking employment, who can post their resumes, and for businesses to advertise their requirements.”
He stated: “We are determined to give back what we have learned to better the demand and products for our Lao customers.”
He added that OHC offers a professional auditing service using experienced “phantom guests” to evaluate hotels. It also supplies a wide selection of data and information, including forms and manuals created specifically for an individual property or related hospitality businesses.
Mr Williams and Luang Prabang View Hotel’s management team recently welcomed Lanith Luang Prabang’s Core Faculty Team along with Luxembourg Development advisors, Max Kaiser and Keshia Martin for a full property inspection.
“We wanted to create awareness for Lanith’s team on the upkeep of a hotel with 74 rooms,” Mr Williams said. “We gave them a full tour to see all room categories, and provided them with a better understanding of operations in housekeeping, laundry, kitchens at various dining outlets, landscaping, and the spa.”
Lanith Core Faculty Team member, Soulinnara Ratanavong, who captured the 2014 Pacific Asia Travel Association Face of the Future award, pointed out that Mr Williams is accepting six Lanith Diploma interns for the Luang Prabang View Hotel and currently has staff members enrolled in Lanith’s award-winning Passport for Success skills training programme.
Bernco-Laos Communications managing director Bernie Rosenbloom, who is teaming with OHC, said: “The Lanith-Luang Prabang View connection presents a perfect example of what OHC is trying to achieve…build bridges in Laos’ hospitality industry to provide an overall better product with quality service.”
