A four-day holiday break

12 Jul 2014  2036 | World Travel News

Thais and foreign residents can enjoy a four-day holiday starting this Friday thanks to two Buddhist holidays on Friday and Saturday that usher in the three-month Buddhist Lent.
The public holiday runs from Friday 11 July through to Monday 14 July. The holiday on Friday marks Asarnha Bucha Day, the full-moon day, (15th day of the eighth month) and Khao Pansa follows on 12 July, marking the beginning of the three-month Buddhist Lent.
The long weekend will encourage people to travel, although the two religions holidays will be alcohol-free and most bars and entertainment spots will closed Friday and Saturday. Monday is a compensation holiday for the public holiday falling on a weekend.
The religious holiday is also celebrated in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, some communities in Vietnam, Singapore and parts of India.
TTR Weekly’s daily editions will resume Tuesday, 15 July. We wish all our readers a very relaxing holiday and safe journeys throughout the region.
