Rent a pod at Hanoi airport

Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport introduces sleep pods for sale to serve passengers who face extended delays, or cancelled flights.
It has installed 14 sleep pods, consisting of three single rooms and 11 double rooms that are located at the departure terminal building.
VATC’s Department of Business head, Pham Anh Tu, said the pods with a floor area of 4 sqm (2 m by 2 m floor dimensions) and a generous ceiling height of 3 metres will offer a convenient, comfortable retreat to gain some sleep and reduce the stress of cancelled or delayed flights.
Passengers can enjoy free soft drinks and snacks in the pods that are designed like mini hotels with beds, storage space for luggage and other valuables, as well as a power source for laptops, mobiles and electronic devices. They can access free wireless internet in the pods.
The pods cost USD9.88 for single room and USD11.86 for doubles for just three hours. Subsequent three hours cost USD8.47 and USD10 for single and double rooms, respectively.
The full-day rate is USD72 for single room and USD86 for doubles, which about the same rate as charged by city hotels in the three to four-star category.
Fortunately, the airport authorities are offering a 20% discount to promote the new service for passengers who book a pod up to 5 August.
However, the need for such a service should prompt authorities to ensure airlines that have caused cancellations or long delays be liable to compensate passengers who need to rent a pod.
At least one airline has recognised it should underwrite the cost of a pod when a flight is delayed. VietJet Air passengers are eligible for free access to the pods thanks to the airline’s willingness to underwrite the rental.
