AoT airports underperform

BANGKOK Airports of Thailand reports July data showed overall passengers passing through Suvarnabhumi airport declined 15.60% due to prolonged polical instability in Bangkok.
The country main gateway welcomed 3,543,983 passengers in July, compared to 4,199,000 during the same month last year.
AoT released details, late last week, revealing a decline in aircraft movements of 0.04% in July. Flights decreased from 47,763 to 47,745. The entire system handled 6,936,275 passengers decreasing 2.98% from 7,149,210 during the same month last year.
For the first seven months of this year, the six airports handled 50.17 million passengers. Three airports dominate the data: Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport 26.12 million passengers; Don Mueang 11.29 million; and Phuket 6.63 million. Chiang Mai Airport handled 3.60 million passengers.
How the airports peformed
Suvarnabhumi Airport registered a decline of 13.96% in international aircraft movements from 19,903 to 17,124, while domestic movements increased 11.27% from 4,933 to 5,489 movements.
International passenger traffic dropped 17.64% from 3,478,556 to 2,865,014, while domestic passengers decreased 5.76% from 720,444 to 678,969. Overall, it accounted for a 15.60% decline in passengers.
The second aviation gateway, Don Mueang Airport, recorded a 0.76% increase in international aircraft movement from 3,536 to 3,563. Domestic movement posted 15.72% improvement from 7,973 to 9,226.
International passenger traffic dropped 1.14% from 468,588 to 463,233, while domestic passengers increased 39.54% from 880,422 to 1,228,504.
Chiang Mai International Airport, continued to show growth in July. Both international and domestic aircraft movements registered double-digit increases of 38.29% (666 to 921) and 10.96% (2,637 to 2,926).
International passenger trafic grew 48.53% from 67,345 to 100,029, while domestic traffic gained 15.94% from 356,021 to 412,766.
Phuket International Airport registered a decline of 9.70% in international aircraft movements from 3,349 to 3,024, while domestic aircraft movements slightly increased 0.18% from 2,802 to 2,807.
International passenger traffic decreased 10.72% from 495,444 to 442,353, while domestic declined 8.42% from 402,796 to 368,892.
Chiang Rai International Airport reported an increase in aircraft movements of 47.92% from 530 to 784 while passenger trafic grew 30.25% from 79,598 to 103,677.
Hat Yai International Airport reported an increase of 20.77% in international aircraft movements (130 to 157) while domestic movements grew 32.21% (1,304 to 1,724) in July. Meanwhile, overall passenger traffic registered a 36.42% growing from 199,996 to 272,838 passengers.
