THAI: No mass resignation of pilots

BANGKOK Thai Airways International denied, in a statement earlier this week, that there was any truth in rumours claiming 200 pilots had resigned at one time.
THAI executive vice president of operations, Athisak Padchuenjai, said the rumours were unfounded that 200 pilots had resigned. He affirmed thst the airline’s operations department had not received letters of resignation from 200 pilots as reported by the local media.
“It should be accurately stated that each year there are pilots who express their intention to resign from the company, which is considered normal practice and does not impact the company’s flight operations,” he said.
He noted that the airline has 1,350 pilots (as of August), all of whom have completed international standard training and follow strict operating procedures.
THAI also has a well-established pilot programme to ensure it has a steady supply of pilots who have completed their training and are qualified to fly.
THAI recognises that at the present time there is a high demand for trained commercial pilots, which may have prompted some media to speculate that it was losing a large batch of pilots at one single time.
Media speculation focused on what was termed alleged disagreements and disgruntlements raised by an unidentified group of pilots that led to suggestions they would resign from the airline.
Private airlines such as Thai AirAsia, Nok Air and the most recently Lion Air are all seeking to beef up their pilot intake.
