Lao airports to hire more staff

18 Sep 2014  2035 | World Travel News

VIENTIANE Lao authorities say airports will increase staff to provide improved services to meet a steady growth in tourism.
They admit there is a shortage of trained staff and as two more domestic airports open in 2015, it will be even more urgent to increase manpower.
Airport Management Unit head, Somboun Daosavanh, told local media that over the next three years, the government will hire more staff for airports across the country, especially Attapeu Airport scheduled to open in May next year, and Nongkhang Airport in Huaphanh province which is supposed to be completed by the end of next June.

However, he did not clarify how many staff would be hired and when.
The past three years saw close to 4 million passengers travelling through Wattay International Airport in Vientiane. It included more than 2 million passengers arriving from overseas and over 1 ,million passengers on domestic flights, according to Mr Somboun.
In addition, over the same four years the airports handled 10,000 tonnes of goods flown on both domestic and overseas flights. The figure included over 3,600 tonnes transported through domestic freight companies, and over 6,900 tonnes through foreign freight companies.
