KRABI Thai AirAsia will launch a direct flight connecting Thailand’s Krabi to China’s Guangzhou starting 6 November.
The airline’s CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld, said China remains the main target for the airline’s expansion.
“AirAsia offers 13 routes to 10 destinations in China, all at the lowest fares, flying not only from Don Mueang Airport but also from Phuket and Chiang Mai,” he said.
“All of the services have been well received by Chinese travellers visiting Thailand and this has prompted AirAsia to expand the network to include even more provinces in Thailand.
“Krabi is gaining in popularity with Chinese travellers. Figures indicated that visitors from China were the second most frequent fliers on AirAsia’s Don Mueang-Krabi route after Thais.”
China is an important market for AirAsia. Load factor on flights from China over the first eight months of the year averaged 80%.
The CEO said: “We plan to step up market promotions during the fourth quarter to attract travellers during the year-end holiday season.”
Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province and an economic centre for South China. It is often referred to as the southern gate of China.
The city served as a starting point for the Silk Road’s sea route and was the first free trading port dealing with European traders in the 18th century.
