Savannakhet attracts more tourists

SAVANNAKHET Lao PDR’s Department of Information, Culture and Tourism reports 700,000 visitors travelled to Savannakhet province over the first eight months of the year.
Thailand was the top source of arrivals followed by Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, China and the United Kingdom. However, the department did not provide comparative figures on previous years.
The tourism department director, Bounyong Saypanya, was quoted as saying that tourism this year has generated USD30 million in revenue for the province.

The province has more than 116 tourism sites, 96 restaurants, 67 guesthouses, 15 hotels and 53 tour guides.
Savannakhet, a city in western Laos previously known as Khanthabouli, is the second-largest city in Laos, after Vientiane. The Second Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge over the Mekong River connects Mukdahan province in Thailand with Savannakhet in Laos. It is also well known for its casino that relies mainly on Thai gamblers.
