Nearly 170,000 pledges by IHG colleagues across Asia, Middle East and Africa to raise funds for IHG Shelter in a Storm

SINGAPORE - InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) recently held its global awareness and fund-raising event in aid of IHG Shelter In a Storm, the company’s disaster relief programme and one of its three core corporate responsibility initiatives.

The annual IHG "Race Around the World" event, which took place from 22 to 29 September 2014, saw more than 177,000 colleagues from IHG's corporate offices and hotels across 67 countries globally carry out activities pledged to raise funds for the programme, and nearly 170,000 pledges were fulfilled across IHG's corporate offices and hotels in Asia, Middle East and Africa. For each activity, IHG made a donation of US$1 to the IHG Shelter Fund, a ready pool of resources amassed through fundraising activities throughout the year to respond as soon as disasters strike.

Clarence Tan, Senior Vice President of Development Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) said: “We are really excited to be joining IHG colleagues from across the world to do what we can in raising awareness and funds for IHG Shelter in a Storm. In Singapore, our pledge to cover 35km on bicycle from Marine Parade to Changi Coast Road and back were not only great fun, but also generated a huge amount of engagement among our people and of course raised funds for a great cause.”

In Singapore, other activities pledged by the corporate office included a brisk 5.5km walk on the Southern Ridges, a cross cultural breakfast gathering, a lunch-time run at Fort Canning Park and a healthy-themed Bake Sale.

Hotel colleagues at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium also held a Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium Futsal Tournament where teams of seven-a-side competed in a friendly Futsal Tournament held near the hotel premise. Colleagues also participated in a Vertical Stair Walk that featured an inter-department competition of the most number of stairs walked.

IHG has 49 hotels across the InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands in South East Asia, and six hotels (more than 2,200 rooms) open across four brands in Singapore: InterContinental Singapore, Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre, Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road and Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay.
