Casino project for Phu Quoc

KIEN GIANG  Phu Quoc could be the next casino destination as the island’s authorities attempt to turn the holiday island into a prime tourism destination.
The People’s Committee chairman, Le Van Thi, told Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper that it plans to open a casino in Phu Quoc in an effort to attract foreign tourists.
He said the Party politburo has approved the proposal already and are negotiations are underway to select the most capable investors to run the casino.
inside no 4“Many investors have filed applications, but we have not made a final decision,” he said.
“We expect the investor to have a track record and ability to draw the region’s top gamblers.”
The island is now connected to the national electricity grid. This is a very important factor for rapid development.
Phu Quoc has achieved an annual 25% increase in GDP in the last 10 years.
In 2013, alone, the island welcomed more than 430,000 tourists, an increase of 32% compared to the previous year. Its revenue collection was about USD47.2 million, according to the report.
From next year on, the island’s annual revenue is expected to increase between 20% to 30%.
By 2020, Phu Quoc Island will become a special administrative-economic zone, when it should gross USD771 million in revenue from hospitality services. The island should welcome between 2 to 3 million tourists annually by then; 40% of them foreigners.
From March this year, Phu Quoc allows foreign tourists to visit visa-free for a period of up to 30 days.
