Myanmar hotel investment grows

YANGON  Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism says foreign investment volume in the hotel sector increased to reach USD2 billion from January to October this year.
Local media reported that foreign investment was registered either directly with the hotel ministry, or with state authorities. It totalled a record USD2.3 billion.
Major investment sources were the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and South Korea, but Singapore topped the list in the hotel sector.
inside no 4Most foreign investors preferred joint ventures with private sector partners. This has led to an increase in the number of hotels and guesthouses run by local businessmen.
There are more than 1,000 licensed hotels including guesthouses owned by local businessmen, according to the ministry.
