ITB Asia: Finalists for Nat Geo awards

SINGAPORE  The inaugural National Geographic World Legacy Awards a shortlist of 15 finalists during ITB Asia Wednesday.
The winners in five categories will be announced at the World Legacy awards ceremony March 2015 at ITB Berlin.
The awards are a partnership between National Geographic Society and ITB Berlin to honour leading travel and tourism companies, organisations and destinations that are driving sustainable tourism transformation in the travel industry.
inside no 6The 15 finalists were whittled down from 150 entries from 56 countries by 18 judges, who will now make inspection trips before reaching a final decision on winners ahead of ITB Berlin next March.

Engaging Communities — Recognising direct and tangible economic benefits that improve local livelihoods.

Destination Leadership — Recognising destination that are demonstrating environmental best practices.

National Geographic World Legacy Awards chairman, Costas Christ, said: “Sustainable tourism is evolving from a niche trend to a true global transformation of how the travel and tourism industry operates and what impacts it has on the people and places that travellers visit.”
