Sheraton has been without a presence on Thailand’s most visited resort island since 2011, when the former Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket was rebranded as an Angsana.

But the company has now signed a new agreement with Phuket Advance Development Ltd that will see it manage the new Sheraton Phuket Kalim Beach Resort, which is scheduled to open in early 2018.

This agreement comes shortly after Starwood announced plans to launch its first W Hotel in Phuket and bring its Sheraton brand to Koh Samui.

“We are thrilled to bring the Sheraton brand to the beautiful island of Phuket, and believe this underscores a key milestone for the brand in the region,” said Rajit Sukumaran, Starwood’s vice president of acquisitions & development for Asia Pacific. “The signing of Sheraton Phuket Kalim Beach Resort strengthens Starwood’s current and growing footprint in the country where we already have 22 properties across eight of our nine brand flags.”

The 230-room Sheraton Phuket Kalim Beach Resort will be a new-build property located on a 4.3-hectare hillside plot, overlooking the Andaman Sea. Upon completion, the hotel will boast extensive event space, a spa, two salt-water swimming pools, a fitness centre and three dining venues, including one beachfront restaurant.

Sheraton Phuket Kalim Beach Resort will join Starwood’s existing portfolio of 22 properties in Thailand, covering eight of its nine brands. Five of these are Sheraton hotels, including the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers Bangkok, Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, Sheraton Hua Hin Pranburi Villas, Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort, and Sheraton Pattaya Resort.

And Sheraton Phuket Kalim Beach Resort will join the existing Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Le M?ridien Phuket Beach Resort and The Naka Island, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, in the island province of Phuket.
