HANOI  Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism says campaigns will focus on promoting Vietnamese cuisine to attract more European tourists to the country.
Local media reported Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism claiming food would be a major focus of a new promotional campaign to tempt to Europeans to visit the country from 2015 to 2017.
Experts call this ‘food tourism or ‘culinary tourism, claiming there is a large segment of tourists who travel just to experience food. However, it is a very doubtful that visitors would make food the sole consideration for choosing a destination.
inside no 2Europeans are a major target for Vietnam, but the majority travel to countries in Southeast Asia for beach holidays with a dash culture and shopping. They are just as likely to seek out their home country cuisine and this is reflected in the wide variety of restaurants representing the cuisine of the tourists who visit a destination; British pub fare, Russian restaurants and Italian pizza parlours.
Vietnam welcomed more than 1 million European tourists, accounting for 14% of all international visitors, a 24% increase from 2012.
During the first nine months of this year, European arrivals increased sharply over the same period in 2013; visitors from the UK have increased by 16%, Germany by 75%, Spain by 24%, and Italy by 15%.
