More than 1,000 tour groups from Hong Kong and China have canceled trips to the Philippines after a deadly bus hijacking in Manila last month, resulting in a loss of $200,000, the China Daily reported today, citing Simeon P. Marfori, undersecretary of the Department of Philippine Tourism.
The Philippine tourism industry may sustain more than $500,000 of losses over the next three months, the newspaper cited Marfori as saying. Travelers from Hong Kong account for about 10 percent of all inbound tourists to the Philippines, Marfori was cited as saying.
Marfori also apologized for the bus hijacking, the newspaper reported.
