NAY PYI TAW  21 ASEAN enterprises were recognised for business excellence, earlier this week, at the 7th ASEAN Business Awards, the highest accolade the ASEAN Business Advisory Council can confer to outstanding businesses in the region.
The awards were presented in the presence of over 600 delegates including President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Thein Sein who officiated at the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit Tuesday.
Recognising that enterprises are important sources of innovation, productivity growth and employment, ASEAN businesses are key drivers of equitable economic development, a key pillar of the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint. The Awards saw 120 entries, with a handful of first time submissions, indicating a burgeoning ASEAN entrepreneurial culture.
inside no 7Held annually, the ASEAN Business Awards is organised as part of the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit, a calendar event for the ASEAN business community, to recognise enterprises that have contributed to the growth and prosperity of the ASEAN economy.
Twenty one enterprises from Myanmar, Philippines and Singapore were the standout winners for the six categories of ASEAN Centricity, Corporate Excellence, and Innovation for large companies, and MSMEs, Young Entrepreneur and Women leaders for SMEs.
Four out of the six titles were won by enterprises in Singapore including UOB (United Overseas Bank Limited) who won the ASEAN Centricity award for placing ASEAN at the core of their business, Keppel Land International Limited who was awarded the Corporate Excellence award for being outstanding members of their community. Cyclet Electrical Engineering Pte Ltd. and Absolute Kinetics Consultancy Pte Ltd., also emerged as winners for the category of Innovation and MSME.
Philippine enterprise, Community Health Education Emergency Rescue Services Corporation won the title for Women Leader, for being an exemplary business founded and actively managed by a woman. The Young Entrepreneur award, which recognises the next generation of emerging leaders under 45 years of age went to Blue Ocean Operating Management, a Myanmar enterprise.
President of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry U Win Aung who presented the awards to the national winners remarked, “The six ASEAN winners, 13 ASEAN runner ups and 21 national winners awarded today, were not easily chosen as we had a record amount of submissions and there was number of competitive submissions.”
Tourism, aviation and hospitality companies were missing from the awards list, all the more suprising as ASEAN member nations rely heavily on tourism. It one of the top three foreign exchange earning industries and possibly the single largest employer outside of agriculture in most ASEAN nations with the exception of Brunei.
