HANOI, 20 November 2014: Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) will sell train tickets on its website soon following the completion of a software upgrade.
Passengers will be able to book train travel online and complete the transaction, but they will still need to make payments in cash, or via Internet banking to seal the transaction. They will also need to go to the nearest station to get the paper tickets at least four hours before departure.
Designer of the ticket sales system at VNR’s website, FPT Information System Company general director, Pham Minh Tuan, said it will be up and running 1 December.
inside no 5Online bookings will make it easier and reduce the long queues at stations, although having to use internet banking to pay may not be the preferred option for travellers who usually like to pay using credit cards.
In 2016, passengers will only need to show the e-ticket numbers and identity cards to board the train, instead of having to get a paper ticket.
FPT Group will provide a complete system from software for ticket sales to IT infrastructure including servers, network equipment and telecom infrastructure. The system will connect FPT’s data centre to all stations and equipment for sale of train tickets.
