SINGAPORE  Vietjet has officially launched an affiliate company, Vietjet Air Cargo, paving the way for the fledging carrier to begin transporting freight and commodities to the region.
Vietjet Air Cargo plans to operate 28 cargo routes this year and will increase this by 39 in 2015 as cargo demand increases both locally and globally.
The airline will not only focus on cargo services using its local and international commercial flights, but also use dedicated freighter aircraft and offer cargo air charter services. The airline’s fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft will increase to 30 next year.

“There is a huge potential for air cargo in Vietnam. Currently this service is mainly offered by international airlines,” said Vietjet Air Cargo managing director, Do Xuan Quang.
According to the International Air Transport Association, air cargo accounts for 25% of Vietnam exports.
Since Vietjet started its operations three years ago, the airline has doubled its commercial fleet, transporting 6 million passengers.
It operates 24 domestic and international routes including daily flights from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City where travellers can easily connect to other cities within Vietnam via the airline’s extensive network of domestic flights. International routes have been established to Bangkok, Siem Reap and Seoul.
