Garuda and MAI ink agreement

JAKARTA  Garuda Indonesia and Myanmar Airways International concluded a codeshare agreement, late last week.
Signing the accord were Garuda Indonesia EVP sales and marketing, Erik Meijer and Myanmar Airways International managing director, Si Thu.
It was witnessed by the by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Ito Sumardi, the Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia San Myint Oo, and president & CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar.
inside no 4Under the agreement, flights served by MAI on the routes Bangkok — Yangon and Singapore –Yangon will carry the GA designator with a four digit flight number.
Myanmar Airways International’s 8M flight designator on Garuda Indonesia’s services on the routes Jakarta – Bangkok and Jakarta – Singapore.
Passengers will be able to check through to the final destination with baggage transferred between 8M and GA flights.
Garuda Indonesia EVP sales and marketing, Erik Meijer, said: “Myanmar is an important market for Indonesia and through this partnership we can offer more travel options for passengers travelling between the two countries. It also makes Indonesia more accessible for Myanmar citizens.”
Myanmar Airways International managing director, Si Thu, said Indonesia was an increasingly important market for Myanmar with around 55,000 people travelling between the two countries for both business and leisure.
The codeshare flights are pending final government approvals, but should be available for passenger bookings this month.
