Join Thailand’s first haunted trail running: U-Tapao Ripley’s Run

BANGKOK/CHON BURI - Thailand’s first haunted trail running “U-Tapao Ripley’s Run” is scheduled to take place on 13 December, 2014, at the U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya International Airport in Sattahip, Chon Buri.

The U-Tapao Ripley’s Run will focus on both the physical and emotional strengths of the runners, who will be challenged in an adventure trail haunted by more than 300 ghosts, brought especially to the Airport’s runways by the Ripley’s Believe It or not Museum.

The haunted trail running is organised by the Royal Thai Naval Air Division and Ripley’s Believe It or not Museum, with support from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Tri Petch Isuzu Sales.

Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said, “This adventurous and exciting trail running experience follows the success of the Isuzu Roboman U-Tapao 2014 competition organised from 24 to 25 May this year at the U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya International Airport. These sporting events are being held to promote the beautiful environs and many ecotourism opportunities available within the extensive grounds of the Royal Thai Naval Air Division in Sattahip.”

The U-Tapao Ripley’s Run will feature three endurance disciplines: a 21 km half marathon, a 10.5 km quarter marathon and a 5 km micro marathon. The trail will feature a scenic route, lush forest, beautiful canal and hillside track, as well as old buildings and used aircraft hangars within the grounds of the Royal Thai Naval Air Division. En route, runners will be thrilled with an eerie haunted atmosphere, along with more than 300 scary ghosts, that are brought in to enhance the fun and excitement for the run.

On the event date (13 December, 2014), registration will take place from 08.00 – 12.00 hrs. The actual run will start from 13.30 hrs. with the 21 km half marathon, followed by the 10.5 km at 14.00 hrs., and the 5km at 14.15 hrs. The awards presentation is scheduled at 16.30 hrs. and the mini zombie party will begin at 17.30 hrs. The event will end at 21.00 hrs.

U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya International Airport operated by the Royal Thai Naval Air Division and is located just a two-hour drive from Bangkok or 30 minutes south of Pattaya.
