VN targets Indian market

HANOI Vietnam has set its sights on Indian tourists hoping to expand the market from 10,000 arrivals today to at least 100,000 in the foreseeable future.
Vietnam National Administration of Tourism’s International Cooperation Department general director, Dinh Ngoc Duc, told local media that to achieve the goal, VNAT will India’s top media agencies to Vietnam to popularise the destination in India through promotional features, and organising a tourism and cooperation conference to discuss joint projects.
Three years ago, India was listed for the first time on a list of potential markets. However, visits have not grown very much when compared with Thailand and this was blamed mainly on the lack of direct airline services.
Jet Airways has recently introduced daily flights from New Delhi and Mumbai to Ho Chi Minh City.

The daily services to Vietnam are routed through Bangkok and involve a codeshare agreement with Vietnam Airlines that gives the Vietnamese national airline a slice of the action.
Jet Airways chairman, Naresh Goyal, was quoted as saying that an average cabin factor is 77% on the service and this will lead to news services possibly to Hanoi from New Delhi next year.
Vietnam Airlines general director, Pham Ngoc Minh, added last year saw a total of 46,000 passengers travelling between the two countries by air, while the first half of this year achieved a growth rate of 25%.
Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air may start flights to India on their own without relying on codeshares.
Around 2.5 million Indians visited ASEAN countries last year with Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia taking the main share.
