HONG KONG - Globally acknowledged as the arts hub of Asia, Hong Kong welcomes an eclectic new exhibition space – Art@JPlushk - at the Ground Floor of J Plus Hotel by YOO and the launch of a series of pop-up art exhibitions in the hotel during 2015.

In celebration of ‘J+Yoo Style’, J Plus Hotel by YOO will partner with like-minded art organisations and galleries to engage Hong Kong’s creative audience through various programs aimed at growing awareness of local and international artistic talents based in Hong Kong, further contributing to the city’s creative industry, fostering its growing presence and ensuring its continued prosperity.

“J Plus Hotel by YOO was the first Hong Kong hotel to introduce a “street art” twist to the exterior of its building to promote a unique artistic element in this dynamic city,” states J Plus Hotel by YOO General Manager, Ms Vivian Chau. “We are now excited to launch this dedicated new exhibition space where our guests can enjoy an exclusive opportunity to view and appreciate works by artists from all over the world.”

In January 2015, ‘J+Yoo Style’ launches its inaugural art exhibition in conjunction with the city’s leading contemporary art gallery, Cat Street Gallery. The exhibition introduces three acclaimed international artists to Hong Kong’s art enthusiasts, showcasing some of the world’s most eclectic contemporary artwork.

Zhivago Duncan co-headlines this inaugural exhibition, bringing his distinct Berlin flair, which explores contemporary culture and its obsession with multimedia artworks, from a futuristic, apocalyptic perspective. Two of his celebrated artworks capturing his unique style will be on display, including a black and white print featuring colourful letters splashed on top and playfully entitled ‘Hang on Sloopy (Double)’, and the controversially titled ‘Pioneer Italian Transexual.’

Jason Sims brings an Australian perspective to contemporary art through his light-based multimedia work. His signature creations of boxed-in colourful lighting plays with the idea of infinite spaces extending beyond boxed-in boundaries.

For the last six years, Sims has been building and creating handmade sculptural artworks, including ‘Replicate’, which explores his ever-inventive use and manipulation of light and space. He captivates audiences with his mesmerising light boxes and installations, enticing the observer to travel ever deeper into his expansive portals of perspective.

In addition, husband-and-wife duo, Rob and Nick Carter will be showcasing their skills in cutting edge new media. Their colourful artwork includes camera-less photography, painting, installation, neon, sculpture and time-based media prompting the viewer to ask the question, ‘How do we look at art?’ They will be exhibiting three of their signature works, including “868: Benzimidazolone Orange”, “879: Dioxazine Violet”, and “875: Cobalt Bermuda Blue” through the partnership with Cat Street Gallery.

Art enthusiasts can enjoy this marriage of pop-art and multimedia art during the 1st quarter of 2015 at Art@JPlushk, commencing 1st January.

Established in 2006, Cat Street Gallery has a leading reputation within the art world for promoting international artistic talents in Hong Kong and across the region. As such, the Gallery welcomed the opportunity to partner with J Plus Hotel by YOO in this inaugural exhibition of renowned international artists.

“Zhivago Duncan, Jason Sims, and Rob and Nick Carter represent the evolution of contemporary art and the foray into multi-media experience pieces which are provocative, intriguing, and bright. Collectively, their works are trailblazers in the contemporary world. They relate perfectly to the hotel lobby as they are show stopping, loud works,” said Ms Mandy d'Abo, Founder and Director of Cat Street Gallery.

“We are delighted to partner in this inaugural J Plus Hotel by YOO pop-up exhibition,” comments d’Abo. “These artworks were chosen for the first series because we felt they were a perfect fit for the hotel and are contemporary and fun, whilst still retaining memorable qualities and an air of seriousness.”

The theme of contemporary design is weaved into the DNA of J Plus by YOO, as evidenced by the incorporation of a new seating area located on the ground floor designed by famed artist and fabric guru, Stern Rockwell, in a “Love Story” theme.

Rockwell’s creative contribution to the Art@JPlusHK space adds to his portfolio of renowned clients, which includes Cartier, Christian Dior, Tiffany’s NYC, and Calvin Klein Jeans.

J Plus Hotel by YOO is located at 1-5 Irving Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
