Qantas unveils new LAX lounge

19 Dec 2014  2037 | World Travel News

Qantas has unveiled its new lounge at Los Angeles International Airport.

The Qantas First Lounge becomes the first in the airline’s international network to be designed by Australian designer, Marc Newson, and will provide seating for more than 200 passengers.

“The new lounge is more than triple the size of the previous space, and the design and service is equal to the world’s best five star hotels and restaurants,” Qantas’ group CEO Alan Joyce said at the lounge’s launch.

“Lounges are important to our international customers’ journey, which is why we have drawn on the knowledge of world leading experts like Marc Newson and Qantas chef Neil Perry to deliver the most luxurious experience before people even step onboard.

“This new lounge is symbolic of our continued investment in our customers and commitment to the US market. We are the only airline to operate non-stop A380 services between Australia and the United States, we’ve recently introduced the A380 on services between Sydney and Dallas-Fort Worth and opened a new Business Lounge in LA in June,” added Joyce.

Similar to the airline’s First Lounge in Sydney, the new LAX facility features a 74-seat restaurant and bar, Wi-Fi, wireless printing, cable television, two private work areas and seven shower suites.

Guests will also be offered check-in, fast-track immigration and boarding services.

Qantas will increase its flights between Sydney and Los Angeles over the festive season, with an extra Boeing 747 service operating on 18, 19 and 20 December, in addition to the scheduled daily B747 and Airbus A380 services. And from today (18 December 2014), the airline will increase its Melbourne-Los Angeles service from a daily service to 10 flights per week.
