Koreans need Lao map

VIENTIANE  Laos will launch travel maps in Korean to support tourism.
Laos’Department of Tourism Promotion, Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, signed an agreement, earlier this month, with South Korea’s Maum Dong Haeng Foundation to publish Lao travel maps in Korean language to make it more convenient for Koreans visiting the country.
Under the three-year agreement (2014 to 2017), the two parties will produce 5,000 Lao tourism maps in the Korean language each year.
Korean tourists are familiar with only Vientiane and Luang Prabang and lack basic knowledge of other regions in the country.
inside no 5Lao Tourism Promotion Department director, Saly Phimphinith, said: “Producing Lao tourism maps in Korean language is the best way to attract more Korean tourists to visit Laos and encourage them to stay longer.”
There are plans to establish direct flights between Vientiane and Seoul provided by Lao Airlines and Jin Air of South Korea.
The department also has plans to enhance tourism cooperation with China, Vietnam, France, Spain and other nations to produce Lao tourism maps.
During January to June this year, there were over 50,000 Korean visitors earning tourism revenue of around USD30 million.
Last year, over 80,000 Koreans visited the country generating USD40 million in revenue compared to 54,000 visits and USD25 million in 2012.
