The US planemaker revealed that the Beijing-based carrier has committed to purchase a mix of its standard single-aisle jet, the B737, and the new fuel-efficient model, the B737 MAX.

The order is worth more than US$6 billion at current list prices.

“Our long-standing and productive partnership with Air China dates back to the airline’s beginning and we are proud the 737 has been part of their success,” said Ihssane Mounir, Boeing’s vice president of sales & marketing for Northeast Asia.

“We are excited to see that the 737 family will play a significant role in Air China’s continued success.”

Air China currently operates a fleet of more than 120 B737s, along with a similar number of Airbus A320s. The B737 MAX order marks the airline’s first commitment for this model, and follows a previous order for Airbus’ competing model, the A320neo.
