JW Marriott targets Asia’s emerging markets

Marriott International will boost its luxury portfolio in Asia’s emerging markets in the coming months, with the opening of four new JW Marriott hotels in China and India.

In China, the brand will add new hotels in Chongqing, Shenzhen and Macau between now and summer 2015, while in India the JW brand will arrive in Mumbai.

“The addition of these four amazing hotels only continues to strengthen JW Marriott’s already strong presence in Asia,” said Simon Cooper, Marriott’s president & managing director forAsia Pacific.

“We are embarking on an exciting time for the brand and region, and have plans to further expand the brand into new markets including Chengdu, Xi’an, Guangzhou and Dalian in China, Kolkata in India, Jakarta in Indonesia, and Phuket in Thailand.”

First to launch this month was the JW Marriott Chongqing, a new 454-room hotel located in one of the Chinese metropolis’ tallest buildings. Then in the first quarter of 2015, Marriott will launch the 356-room JW Marriott Shenzhen Bao’an, offering views of Qianhai Bay and the Pearl River Delta, and the 585-room JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar, positioned just 1km from the city’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

Then in Q2 2015, the expansion will continue with the opening of the JW Marriott Macau – a 1,015-room hotel set within the Galaxy Macau integrated resort.

Once this phase of expansion is complete, it will take JW Marriott’s Asia Pacific portfolio to 28 hotels, including 11 in China and seven in India. By 2020, the brand’s Asian collection will have risen to 45 properties – more than 40% of its global portfolio.
