Yangon airport handles 1 million visitors

YANGON Ministry of Immigration and Population says over 1 million international tourists entered Myanmar through Yangon International Airport last year.
The Eleven Myanmar news channel reported the airport processed 1,027,770 foreign visitors in 2014, of which 165,660 were Thai. These figures exceed the number of visitors who used the airport in 2013.
Thailand has topped the list of points of origin for Myanmar-bound visitors for the last two years, it said.
Meanwhile, China was the second biggest source and Japan ranked third.

The e-Visa system was launched at Yangon International Airport in September last year. It costs USD50 deducted automatically from a credit card while confirmation takes another five days in the form of an email that travellers must print out and present on arrival at Yangon airport to gain the entry stamp in their passport.
The visas are restricted to tourists with a maximum stay of 28 days. They are valid for use for up to 90 days from the date of issue.
Business visas can only be obtained through embassies, or on arrival at the airport. For the second option, they are pre-processed, based on an invitation letter and other documents that are screened by immigration officials in advance. Once approved, the visa is stamped in the passport on arrival at Yangon’s airport.
