PTT eyes airport investment

BIN DINH  Bin Dinh’s provincial Department of Transportation says Thailand’s top energy firm, PTT Public Company Limited, has asked to partner in a project to upgrade the local Phu Cat Airport to an international hub.
The department head, Tran Chau, told local media that PTT has expressed interest in a partnering with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
According to Vietnam’s aviation development plan for 2020, the nation’s sole airport manager ACV will expand the Phu Cat Airport’s capacity to 600 passengers an hour.
The project also includes the installation of a rain and sewage discharge system, a lighting system for the parking areas and runways and an 8-km security fence.
Inside no.1Figures from airport managers showed that Phu Cat handled more than 500,000 passengers on domestic and international flights last year an increase of 34%.
It should handle 3 million passengers by 2020.
Phu Cat, like Danang and Bien Hoa Airports, was a US airbases during the Vietnam War.
The state-controlled PTT also has plans to invest in a USD20 billion refinery and petrochemical complex in Vietnam.
