PHNOM PENH  Cambodia and Japan signed an agreement, last week, that will allow direct scheduled flights between the two countries.
The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Phnom Penh by Japanese Ambassador Yuji Kumamaru and State Secretariat of Civil Aviation secretary Mao Havannall.
The agreement opens the door for scheduled flights between Japan and Cambodia, although airlines have still to indicate how they will serve the two countries. They will need to access traffic patterns and judge whether there is enough demand to sustain nonstop flights between key cities in Japan and Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.
Jet Taking Off at TwilightCambodia Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation spokesperson, Koy Koung, told local media that the agreement will eventually result in nonstop flights between the two countries and therefore ease transit connections for tourists and investors.
“Thousands of Cambodians now travel to other Asian countries such as Japan… and more Japanese tourists and investors are coming to Cambodia.”
Around 200,000 Japanese travellers visited Cambodia last year.
