PATTAYA  The Chonburi Governor has ordered local authorities in Pattaya to keep beaches free of deck chairs every Wednesday in an effort to improve the look of the resort’s main bay and beaches at Jomthien.
The scheme is in line with the government’s clean-up policy that came into effect 14 January.
Chonburi governor, Komsan Ekchai, said there had been a proliferation of deck chairs on beaches, that cluttered up recreational areas.
Inside no8“The increase in vendors and the density of the beach chair lines takes a toll on the cleanliness and appearance of the beaches,” the governor said.
He added: “The province will be working with the 14th Military Circle, Pattaya City authorities, and the private sector to improve the look of Pattaya and Jomtien beaches.”
Authorities will ask chair vendors to stop renting on Wednesdays as a token gesture.
“The province wants to provide tourists with the freedom to enjoy an open and clean beach with vendors disturbing them,” he said.
