Vietnam’s tourism up 4%

NAY PYI TAW Vietnam’s tourism closed 2014 with a record 7.87 million tourists representing an increase of 4% over 2013.
Details of the country’s tourism performance were released by Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, Wednesday, during the ATF media briefings.
Officials noted that 49% of all tourist arrivals came from the Northeast and another 19% from Southeast Asia.
The top source markets were China with 1.9 million visits, South Korean 848,000, Japan 648,000, US 444,000
inside no 3and Cambodia 404,000.
In its marketing strategy plan, up to 2020, promotions will concentrate on increasing tourism from Northeast Asia and ASEAN that already represent a market share of 70%.
The plan identifies new markets such as the Middle East UAE, India and Saudi Arabia.
Vietnam will hosts two major travel trade events this year; Vietnam International Travel Mart in Hanoi 3 to 6 April and the International Travel Expo in Ho Chi Minh City, 10 to 12 September.
