Viengxay to improve tourism facilities

HUAPHAN  Viengxay officials want to improve facilities to attract more tourists to this northeast Laos destination.
Lao News Agency reported that district officials will develop projects as part of a five-point plan to make the destination more appealing to visitors.
They will create projects that improve historic and natural heritage, while creating more revenue for communities, improving hygiene at tourist facilities and adding more trekking options.
inside no 1It will start with a survey of urban development projects and will also lead to investment in improving roads to destinations in the province.
Three projects focus on the construction of a public park, a commercial centre, and a sports complex in the town of Viengxay.
In 2005, Viengxay district attracted just 2,000 visitors, but that has grown to 12,000 visitors in 2014.
The main problem for tour operators is the lack of a reliable air services from Vientiane capable of carrying tour groups and how the destination can be connected with trips to North Vietnam.
Viengxay is a district of Houaphanh province in northeast Laos. It is home to the Viengxay caves, the Nam Et National Biodiversity Conservation Area, and Phou Pha Thi mountain, site of the Secret War Battle of Lima Site 85 (LS-85) 11 March 1968.
