HO CHI MINH CITY This southern Vietnamese city recently launched digital tourist information stations to improve communications with tourists.
VNPT Ho Chi Minh City, a subsidiary of the state-run Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, partners with Le Digital to install four stations in front of the city’s Municipal Theatre, Saigon Central Post Office and Youth Culture House, and at 125 Le Loi Street.
The stations, equipped with 47-inch touch screens, will be powered by the Google’s Android platform, which will provide information on tourism.
inside no 3The built-in Google Maps app at the information stations, connects with a fiber optic internet cable system.
The four stations are a pilot programme. If the trial goes well, Ho Chi Minh City will set up a citywide information system using former phone booths.
The station also offers free Wi-Fi access within a range of 100 metres.
Le Digital and VNPT Ho Chi Minh City will add more features and update the information database during the trial, which will last until the end of June.
The two companies aim to place 200 stations around the city by 2016.
