Vientiane to preserve heritage

VIENTIANE  Vientiane Capital Administration has launched a project to preserve an old city district covering almost 200 ha that represents the character of the Lao capital.
The Vientiane Times said the project, called “Vientiane Trail 2015 – Historic Town Renovation,” will start at Ong Tue Temple near the Mekong River in the centre of the capital.
The initiative will create an attractive city scape for visitors and locals to relax.
inside no 4The plan is centred on Chao Anouvong and Francois Ngin streets as well as the street adjacent to Ong Tue Temple. Streets that have historic significance will be restored.
Vientiane vice mayor, Keophilavanh Aphaylath, said the activity was very important to conserve the heritage of the city.
“It will help local people to understand and learn how to protect culture, and make historic sites more attractive.”
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Vientiane Capital Administration have asked the Japanese International Cooperation Agency to lead the funding of the project.
This project is under the authority of the Vientiane Urban Development Administration Authority (VUDAA).
