Hotels open in Kien Giang

KIEN GIANG  Tourist destinations in the Mekong delta province of Kien Giang are attracting more hotel investment, according to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The department deputy director, Nguyen Van Sau, told local media that the province forecasts it will have 7,750 rooms in 370 hotels by the end of the year, as 12 three to five-star hotels located on Phu Quoc Island, Rach Gia City and Ha Tien Town open for business.
“Hotel investment has increased sharply since 2011. The province had 4,600 rooms in 2011 and that grew to 6,320 last year.”
inside no 3From 2011 to 2014, the Mekong Delta province welcomed around 18.12 million tourists (mainly domestic) and posted tourism revenue of more than USD281 million. However, the province only attracted 873,500 foreigners over the same period, representing an annual growth of 11.3%.
Overall, tourist arrivals increased by 10.7% and revenue by 12.7% each.
The province now has around 270 tourist sites, including beaches and islands including Hai Tac, Ba Lua and Nam Du.
Kien Giang had attracted investments in over 160 tourism projects covering an area of nearly 6,530 hectares since 2011. By the end of September last year, the province had 243 approved projects covering 8,000 hectares, but only 37 of them were operational.
