The concept

As you know, Thailand’s foreign inbound market recovered somewhat during the last few months of 2014, to register a year-end result just seven percent behind the record level achieved during 2013. The last few years have been mostly but unevenly bullish, recovering in double-digit leaps following periods of contraction in early 2005 and declines during 5 consecutive quarters between 2008 and 2009.

As a consequence, the source market mix has seen some shifts leading to changes in the visitor profile and hence the tendency for cities and provinces across the Kingdom to attract and retain foreign arrivals. In addition, the major source markets of China, Malaysia and Russia have all seen some volatility in recent years with the latter, in particular still feeling the impact of a softening currency.

Added to this is an overall economic softening in the EU, lingering concerns over aviation safety in Southeast Asia, the as yet unknown impacts of the AEC at the end of the year, and some concerns over personal safety and security while in Thailand, all of which – real or imagined – take some toll on the international reputation of the Kingdom as a preferred tourism destination.

Added together, the suggestion is that 2015 will be another tough year for the travel & tourism sector, but forewarned will be forearmed and opportunities will arise – whether or not they will be recognised is up to you.

So join us to prepare yourself for the year ahead by hearing from, and being part of, the discussions led by analysts and practitioners as they consider market trends and other factors that will affect your source markets in 2015.
