VIENTIANE The Asian Development Bank will provide funding of over USD40 million for tourism development through 2019 for the construction of infrastructure, especially access roads to tourist sites, and handicraft product development.
Lao News Agency reported the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and ADB held a meeting to launch a stakeholder partnership for Destination Development and Management Monday.
The Information, Culture and Tourism deputy minister, Chaleune Warinthrasak, said ADB will provide a low-interest loan of about USD40 million for tourism development, which will be implemented from now through 2019.
inside no 4In addition, the government is going to provide a grant of about USD3 million.
The funds will be used to develop roads to Chom Ong Cave in Oudomxay province, National Road No 13 North to Pak Ou village via Xanghai village to improve access to Thamting Cave, one of the most important tourist sites of Luang Prabang and an access road to Tham Xang Cave in Khammuan Province.
The funds will also be used to develop facilities to support tourist sites in Oudomxay, Luang Prabang and Khammuan provinces and to improve the ferry station at Xiengmaen village, Chomphet North district.
