Maha Sarakham is located in the heart of Isan, Thailand’s Northeast region, neighbouring with Kalasin, Roi Et, Surin, Buri Ram and Khon Kaen provinces.
The province is the Buddhist centre of Isan, where many Buddhist archeological artifacts were unearthed, including a Relic of Lord Buddha in Na Dun district. A pagoda was built in Maha Sarakham, which is now a venue for important Buddhist rites in the region.
The small province is also famous for its educational institutes, historical sites, beautiful Buddhist temples and Buddha images, and exquisite woven materials, including hand-made silk and cotton fabrics.
