The Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Sydney‘s Darling Harbour has embarked on a major AU$200 million (US$156m) expansion plan.

The project will see the additional third tower at the hotel, adding 222 more rooms to its current inventory, plus new bar and restaurant concepts. Once complete, the hotel will offer a total of 905 rooms.

In addition, a new 4,800m² conference space will be created overlooking Darling Harbour. The area will include two ballrooms, the largest of which will be able to seat up to 1,100 delegates, plus breakout areas and smaller meeting rooms.

The development project is expected to be completed by August 2016.

“We’re thrilled to be embarking on the next phase of the hotel’s momentous transformation and looking forward to unveiling what will be a first-class hotel,” said the hotel’s GM, David Fraser.

“The additional convention space will also help address the reduction of event facilities in the CBD area during the remake of Sydney’s Convention & Exhibition Centre, ensuring Sydney remains number one for large scale events in the Asia Pacific region.”

This latest phase of development follows the unveiling of a AU$30m renovation in 2013, which included the refurbishment of all rooms, the introduction of a new Premium Room category, enhancements to the restaurant and ballroom, and the launch of four new meeting rooms.
