TCEB on tour with marts

BANGKOK The second edition of Thailand Domestic MICE Mart, opened Tuesday, at the Bangkok Convention Centre, Centara Grand at CentralWorld, Bangkok in a move to support local events.
Speaking at the media conference on mart’s opening day organiser, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau president, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai said it would stimulate the domestic MICE market.
TCEB has identified the mart, which will move around the country’s top events destination until June, this year, as a priority in its marketing campaign.
The on-going campaign, Meeting in Thailand, kicks off with the Second Thailand Domestic MICE Mart. It will underline MICE activities in five MICE cities — Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Khon Kaen as well as other high potential cities.
inside no 1The Second Thailand Domestic MICE Mart welcomed 140 buyers from public and private organisations, associations and institutes who met with 75 sellers including MICE entrepreneurs from venues, hotels, and airlines.
The MICE Mart will go mobile moving to all the designated cities: Chiang Mai (26 March at Chiang Mai International Convention and Exhibition Centre); Phuket (29 April at Indigo Pearl Hotel); Khon Kaen (28 May at Centara Hotel & Convention Centre); and Pattaya (25 June at Holiday Inn Hotel).
TCEB will also focus on expanding the footprint of domestic meetings and exhibitions to cover exhibitors and delegates from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
“Those are the gateways for rising border trade and investment in the ASEAN Economic Community era,” TCEB Domestic MICE director Puripan Bunnag said.
TCEB will work closely with local chambers of commerce in Tak, Mukdahan, Sa Kaew, Trat and Songkhal to promote MICE activities in neighbouring countries.
Another strategy involves promoting domestic meetings and incentives to use venues of Royal Initiative Projects and Royal Thai Military tourism destinations.
The military sites are mainly geared to offering team building services, while the Royal Projects are educational and cna be linked to CSR programmes.
TCEB intends to underscore the promotion of domestic exhibitions through various directions. They include introducing domestic exhibitions throughout the country, upgrading local exhibitions to become regional exhibitions and replicating successful events in other domestic market.
TCEB estimates Thailand’s domestic MICE will reach 15.23 million domestic MICE travellers generating THB33,069 million in revenue compared to 14.5 million travellers circulating THB31,493.9 million last year.
