On 5 March, 2015 on the sidelines of the reception hosted by the state of Hesse at the ITB travel trade show in Berlin, Fraport AG’s executive board member and Executive Director Operations, Anke Giesen, and Chao Zhang, CEO of Hong Kong-based service provider Dexin Global Community Limited, jointly signed a five-year cooperation agreement to promote the destination Frankfurt and the tourist regions Frankfurt/Rhine-Main and the state of Hesse in the People's Republic of China.
After signing the cooperation agreement, COO Giesen said: "The state of Hesse and the Federal Republic of Germany are increasingly popular as vacation destinations for Chinese tourists, with the majority of these visitors traveling via Frankfurt Airport. With the help of our new partner in China, we can provide the travel industry there with up-to-date information and offers for tourist destinations throughout the state of Hesse. As a result, we are taking another step towards establishing China as a key source market for incoming tourism to the state of Hesse. This benefits not only Frankfurt Airport but also the entire region."
China currently ranks fourth behind the U.S., the Netherlands, and the U.K by the number of international tourists visiting the state of Hesse. In 2014 alone, hotels in Hesse accommodated around 360,000 visitors from China, representing a year-on-year increase of some 18 percent. Many guests from the Far East are particularly interested in the wide range of shopping opportunities that Frankfurt and the larger Rhine-Main region have to offer. Frankfurt Airport currently boasts 73 flight connections per week to 8 destinations in China and welcomed about 1 million passengers from the Middle Kingdom in 2014.
