BANGKOK If you have a vision of where Thai tourism is heading, there is an open invitation to share it with other travel executives at a seminar 19 March.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports in co-operation with PATA Thailand Chapter is organising what it calls an interactive event “Imagine Thailand 2020 – A New Public-Private Vision for Thai Tourism”.
The event is open to all travel executives and will be held Thursday 19 March, 0900 to 1700 at the ballroom of Centara Grand at CentralWorld in downtown Bangkok.
Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the PATA Thailand Chapter call the event unique, interactive and engaging. Unique it is not and how engaging it turns out to be will depend on whether private sector executives are prepared to talk straight to the ministry on what is sustainable in the long-term.
insid no 3 The official blurb on the event said “this is an essential input into the strategic planning process of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports with the valuable experience and perspectives of the private sector being sought for the development of the Tourism Road Map 2020.”
According to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, “the objectives of the overall master plan process will focus on: Value creation, sustainable tourism (balance of business, local people, environment), and wealth distribution as well as local people development and the pride of the homeland.”
The ministry is producing a roadmap for 2020 and has asked the private sector to chip in with comments and ideas. The draft master plan will be completed by 30 March and will then enter a testing phase before the 2020 master plan is officially launched in mid July.
