More films shot in Thailand

BANGKOK Thailand earned a record THB648.65 million from on-location film shoots, January to February, this year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Film Office Department’s latest update released last week.
For the first two months of the year, 139 documentaries, advertising slots, TV series and music videos were filmed on location generating THB648.65 million in tourism related revenue compared to 108 productions and THB581.43 million during the same period last year.
The 139 productions were categorised as 23 documentaries, 78 advertising spots, 12 television programmes, eight music videos and 18 films.
European filmmakers topped the list during the first two months with 32 productions followed by 22 from Japan, 19 from India, 10 from South Korea and the United States, nine from China, seven from Hong Kong, three from Australia, one from Taiwan and 26 from others.
inside no 4In February alone, there were 64 productions that generated THB337.49 million compared to 54 productions that circulated THB186.19 million during the same month last year.
Europe also led in February with 17 productions following by 13 from Japan, six from India, five from China, four from the US, four from Hong Kong, three from South Korea, one from Australia, and 11 from others.
Promoting film shoots comes under a department that is part of Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Films provide positive tourism awareness that encourages travel without a major investment in media or advertising.
