Telephone help line boosts safety

HO CHI MINH CITY Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism officially opened its tourist information telephone service Wednesday.
The 24-hour service (help line 1087) will provide information and answer questions raised by domestic and foreign visitors about tourism and travel safety in the city.
The service is the first of its kind in Vietnam, according to local media.
The help line is staffed with both Vietnamese and English language speakers. It also provides information on tours, tourist spots, hotels and flights.
inside no 3The call staff can contact tour operators and book air tickets, tours and hotel rooms on a tourist’s behalf to fast track a booking.
Tourists can also provide feedback on service quality and report rip-offs and incidents they encounter during their stay in the city.
Telephone operators will provide information on how to contact competent agencies for assistance.
The 1087 service charges USD0.14 per minute for landlines and USD0.23 per minute for cellphones.
Last year, the city recorded nearly 4.4 million of foreign tourists, accounting for 56% of national tourist arrivals. The city hopes to welcome about 4.7 million foreigners this year.
