European classic & vintage cars tour Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA - A mix of European classic and vintage cars arrived in Malaysia for a programme called ‘Vintage Car Rally: Destination Fascinating Malaysia 2015’, from 16 to 30 March.

A total of 52 participants in 26 cars from Belgium, the Netherlands, and France, along with those from Singapore and Malaysia, will be driving from Putrajaya to Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Perak, and Penang, before arriving in Kuala Lumpur for the Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix.

The participants were flagged off by Tourism Malaysia’s Deputy Director General (Promotion) Dato’ Haji Azizan Noordin and the Ambassador of Belgium to Malaysia Daniel Dargent at the Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside Hotel, Putrajaya. Tourism Malaysia also hosted a cocktail reception at the same venue on 17 March to welcome the participants.

During their tour, they will be visiting various tourist destinations in the country, such as Pulau Besar, Cherating, Tasik Kenyir, Belum Rainforest, Cameron Highlands, and Batu Caves. They will also get to drive through the Jendarata plantation estate and enjoy a shopping tour in Kuala Lumpur.

The event is the brainchild of Stephaan Schutte, a participant of the Malaysia My Second Home programme, and Jean Van Der Elst. They have been promoting the event to vintage car owners and making the necessary arrangement since early 2014.

The rally is only opened to classic and vintage cars until 1975, as well as special cars upon invitation. The entry fee for each car with 2 pax is €7,950, which covers flight tickets (Economy class Paris CDG-KL-Paris CDG), shipping of cars, custom clearances, third party insurance in Malaysia, transfers from hotel to port, 12 nights in luxury hotels, a night on an island resort, dinners (including one beach BBQ), city tour in Singapore with personal guide, and entrance to F1 race in Sepang, as well as technical assistance and recovery truck throughout the journey.

The event certainly goes in line with the Government’s effort to promote the country as a destination for affordable luxury, as well as fly-and-drive.
